CAPSULE BIOGRAPHY

 

Dr. Choong Chee Keong is a Professor in the Faculty of Business and Finance, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia. He obtained his Bachelor of Economics (Hons) and Master of Economics from the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia in 2000 and 2002, respectively. Then, he received his Ph.D. in Economics (Financial Economics) from the Faculty of Economics and Management, Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2007. Courses that he has taught include Economics, Business Finance, and Statistics for Economics and Management, History of Economic Thought, Quantitative Techniques, Basic Econometrics, Econometrics, Research Methods, Business Research Methodology (master and doctorate levels).

 

He is actively involves in research covering the areas of applied and monetary economics (public finance, stock market, monetary and fiscal policies) and international economics (private capital flows, exchange rate, remittances, trade) and financial economics (financial sector development and institutional quality). He has more than 130 papers accepted / published so far in national and international journal articles including those ranked by Thomson Reuters (ISI) (17 articles) and indexed in SCOPUS (14 articles), chapters in books, conference or seminar proceedings and international newspapers. He was also awarded 5 Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Malaysia; 4 UTAR Research Fund; and 4 collaborations with local public and private universities (Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Universiti Teknologi MARA and Monash University Sunway Campus).

 

He acts as an editorial referee or book reviewer to few referred journals such as Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy, Economic Modeling, Singapore Economic Review, Contemporary Economic Policy, African Journal of Business Management and World Applied Sciences Journal. He is the Associate Editor of two international journals, namely: Journal of Arts Science and Commerce and The Indian Journal of Commerce and Management Studies.

 

His biography is included in the 2009 and 2011 Premier Edition of Who's Who in the World, which profiles the most accomplished persons in 215 countries. Moreover, some of his articles are available at IDEAS (Internet Documents in Economics Access Service, http://ideas.repec.org/) and have attracted a couple of interested readers. In August 2012, he ranked top 13% (out of 149 registered economists) and 14% (out of 2789 registered economists) in Malaysia and Asia, respectively. His articles published in Macroeconomics and Finance in Emerging Market Economies and Japan and the World Economy have been cited as one of the Top Requested and/or Most Downloaded Papers in the years 2010, 2011 and 2012, respectively.
