Industrial Training Application Procedures
Students enter particulars in the database through web to create a login account (click on Student Registration). Regardless of whether you intend to apply / do not intend to apply / undecided, you also will need to register and create an account in this portal.
Students login to the portal. (click on Student Login)
Requirements to fulfill before applying for Industrial Training:
Must have at least 54 credits
Must not under probation
A student can apply to at most 3 companies from the list. (click on Student Application). Only if the company/companies have rejected the student's application then only the student can apply to another company/companies. This process will continue until the student successfully obtained a job. Student must e-mail the resume and cover letter to the companies within 1 working day from the time the apply button is clicked. (see Fig for samples).
The e-mails must be attention to Contact 1 & Contact 2 and CC to the assigned committee member.
Please wait for 3 working days before calling the companies to enquire about the application status. Student can either speak to Contact 1 or Contact 2. Please be polite all the time.
Students can also apply to companies not in the list, ie. Companies found by students themselves. (Note: Whether the companies are in the list or companies found by students themselves, it is the student's responsibilities to ensure that the job is technically related (such as programming, technical support, database administration, networking, etc. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, some flexibility could be given whereby a student can perform at most 20% - 30% of non-technically related job during the industrial training period.)
Companies in UTAR list must be given priority. In the event a student is offered a job by more than 1 company, then the student must always take up the job from the company that is in UTAR list. In the event where more than 1 company in the UTAR list offer a student job, then the student must take up the offer from the company that first make the offer.
Student must within 1 working day reply to the company on the acceptance/non-acceptance of the job offer and CC to the assigned committee member. (see Fig for samples of acceptance/non-acceptance letters). Student must then immediately update the Application status from the Industrial Training Portal.
Students must sign the Letter of Undertaking for UTAR. Students' parents/guardian must sign the Letter of Undertaking for UTAR. Both Letter of Undertakings must be enclosed with a copy of the Letter of Offer from the company and must be submitted to Faculty Industrial Training Coordinator.
Students must sign the Letter of Indemnity for the Company. Students' parents/guardian must sign the Letter of Indemnity for the company. Both Letters of indemnity must be submitted by the student to the company. Duplicate copies of both the Letter of Indemnity must be submitted to Faculty Industrial Training Coordinator.
Students need to enter the company supervisor particulars within 2 weeks upon starting work. Click on the menu "Add Company Supervisor" to enter company supervisor particulars.
Industrial Training Committee will arrange Internal Supervisor to the students which will be made known to the students within 3 weeks upon starting work.
Internal Supervisors may visit, call the students through phone or e-mail the students to check on the students' progress. Daily logs must be made available to the Internal Supervisors for checking.
Students are not allowed to quit or change company, failing which the students may fail the Industrial Training.
Students must inform the assigned committee member on the job offer latest by ??/??/??.
